In 2004 Hayden Breese started Threshold Taekwon-Do. Threshold Taekwon-Do School has grown quickly to one of the South Island’s largest Taekwon-Do organisations.
Threshold Taekwon-Do practices the original ITF style of Taekwon-Do and is affiliated to the International Taekwon-Do Foundation of New Zealand (ITFNZ) now rebranded as International Taekwon-Do.
Any ITKD member can train at any other ITFNZ club free of charge and attend any of the many camps, seminars and tournaments held throughout the year.
Threshold started initially with adults classes. The idea of sperate kids classes was trialled on 25th August 2005. Now the School is home to over 50 students in active adults and kids classes.
The School trains at a fully equipped full time facility in the city, one of the only few facilities of its kind in the country.
Taekwon-Do originated in Korea and has grown to be one of
the most popular martial arts in the world. As a martial art
scientifically designed for self defense, it empowers the individual,
accelerating confidence through physical and mental development. Learn more about the history of Taekwon-Do.
Threshold is instructed by Hayden Breese, V Degree Black Belt. Hayden has a charismatic approach to training which ensures no two classes are ever the same.
ITKD is the National Governing Body for ITF Taekwon-Do in
New Zealand, recognised by the International Taekwon-Do Federation
(ITF), and all ITKD members' rank is recognised throughout
the world. This means if you are a green belt or a 3rd Dan
black belt, you can train in any ITF member club throughout
the world and your rank will be recognised. You can also be
confident that your standard is on a par with an international
level. All instructors attend an ITKD
instructors' course and have a First Aid Certificate.
Threshold Taekwon-Do members have the
opportunity to compete in ITFNZ regional and national
competitions. ITFNZ also competes at the ITF World Champs
every two years and have done since 1994.
We create an annual Threshold movie which every student has an opportunity to be part of.
Gradings are held three times a year, roughly every three months and are a chance for Threshold students to progress in rank. The gradings are conducted by a qualified examiner commissioned by ITKD.
